The emphasis on this passage is WHOEVER. (John 3:16) I believe that as a Christian we should not condemn anyone, and as a follower of Jesus, I befriend everyone. In my experiences I have learned that my gay and lesbian friends don't like God too much. They've been shunned, condemned, judged and casted out by the Christian community and this my friends is unacceptable behavior according to our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Yes, the Bible does reference homosexuality, as it does divorce, sex, violence, lying, cheating, bigamy, blasphemy, etc., etc., and my response to that: Welcome to this crazy little thing called life. No one is perfect, as the Bible tells us, ALL have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. (Romans 3:23).
My heart goes out to my gay/lesbian friends because they believe God doesn't love them, so in turn, they don't believe in or trust God, until of course they meet me. I do believe it's my own personal ministry from God to preach to this community. Do I believe that homosexuality is right or wrong? I don't really care. It's not for me to judge. My job is to introduce people to Jesus and let Him take it from there.
I can tell you that I meet some of the greatest people in my field of social work. And yes, some are gay.
Why am I writing about this? Because recently I have been discussing spirituality with a kid who is somewhat confused in life. He wants to come to church with me, and I'm thrilled because I know Jesus will take really good care of him.
