As my son and I were trolling the aisles of the local food store, he points to rice cakes. "Mom, can we get these?" He asks, oh so excitedly.
Baffled that he chose a sugarless edible item, I was speechless. After my draw drop shock, I could only manage to say "Sure." He then bounced over to the shelf of rice cakes and put them in the cart, mentioning how good they were as he did this. Still baffled at this revelation, and attempting to use reverse psychology so he will actually eat the rice cakes once we get home, I said: "We shouldn't be getting these rice cake things. Their full of sugar and not good for you!"
He just looked at me and said "Huh. I didn't see that coming."
And then I laughed really hard.

Jo Dee Messina Says It Best
Well it's been a long time glad to see your face
I knew we'd meet again another time another place
Can't believe it's been so many years
You'd better grab a chair and a couple of beers
Lookin' good in you three piece suit
You know, I always knew you'd take the business route
You were always the one to follow the light and you look like you're doing alright
Been singin' for my rent and singin' for my supper
I'm above the below and below the upper
I'm stuck in the middle where money gets tight
But I guess I'm doin' alright
I'm all, I'm all, I'm alright
It's a beautiful day not a cloud in sight so I guess I'm doin' alright
o - oh, o - oh, I'm alright
Got a good old friend here with me tonight and I guess I'm doin' alright
Well we had a lot of dreams when we were younger
They thought we were crazy but we had the hunger
We kept a lot of friends, skipped a lot of class
Been on top of the world and knocked on our ____
We lost touch, we lost in love
We lost our minds when things got tough, but
Beatin' time is a losin' fight and I guess I'm doin' alright
I'm all, I'm all, I'm alright
It's a beautiful day not a cloud in sight so I guess I'm doin' alright
o - oh, o - oh, I'm alright
Got a good old friend here with me tonight and I guess I'm doin' alright
Well I guess I'm doin' alright
Well I hate to see this evening end
God only knows when I'll see you again
Just send a fax or send me a letter or give me a call that would even be better
Give the kids a kiss for me and say hello to the family
And tell them all my future's lookin' bright
Well, I miss 'em but I'm doin' alright
I said I miss 'em but I'm doin' alright
I'm all, I'm all, I'm alright
It's a beautiful day not a cloud in sight so I guess I'm doin' alright

That whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life
The emphasis on this passage is WHOEVER. (John 3:16) I believe that as a Christian we should not condemn anyone, and as a follower of Jesus, I befriend everyone. In my experiences I have learned that my gay and lesbian friends don't like God too much. They've been shunned, condemned, judged and casted out by the Christian community and this my friends is unacceptable behavior according to our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Yes, the Bible does reference homosexuality, as it does divorce, sex, violence, lying, cheating, bigamy, blasphemy, etc., etc., and my response to that: Welcome to this crazy little thing called life. No one is perfect, as the Bible tells us, ALL have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. (Romans 3:23).
My heart goes out to my gay/lesbian friends because they believe God doesn't love them, so in turn, they don't believe in or trust God, until of course they meet me. I do believe it's my own personal ministry from God to preach to this community. Do I believe that homosexuality is right or wrong? I don't really care. It's not for me to judge. My job is to introduce people to Jesus and let Him take it from there.
I can tell you that I meet some of the greatest people in my field of social work. And yes, some are gay.
Why am I writing about this? Because recently I have been discussing spirituality with a kid who is somewhat confused in life. He wants to come to church with me, and I'm thrilled because I know Jesus will take really good care of him.
